Memory Synthesis Experiment: Cold Spring Hollow
Cold Spring Hollow in Belchertown, MA was a decrepit property with a number of decaying systems that seem common to domestic life: a failing heating source, irregular running water, vermin infiltration, and mold from a decaying roof. All of these elements contributed to a collective psychosis of an artist community that resided at and visited the location. In the years that I was there, improvements were gradually made that changed it into the slightly more habitable place it is today. This transformative process informed my creative expression.
Regular sonic rituals were performed there carrying on a tradition of an established gathering spot among an active underground music/noise scene. An archive of these events can be found HERE
This page showcases a collection of memory synthesis videos constructed from creative data I acquired while residing at Cold Spring Hollow. The aesthetic influence of the rotting structure and wooded surroundings encouraged a unique direction of making.
I used the social media application TikTok to create these videos because of its aggressive potential for subliminal messaging. The intent of these videos is to communicate memory.
